Designs For Fun

Designs for Fun is a collection of work produced without a paycheck - Ideas, concepts, and explorations in design. Fun is the most important word here because design can take itself too seriously, and we all need to remember why we got into this in the first place - to have fun.

English Premier League Exploration

As a major fan of all European Football (ahem…soccer) watching early weekend matches or weekday European cups I realized, as an American who’s only been to London once, I have no idea where these teams actually play. So I wanted to see if I can create a way to experience the league in a completely new way - location.

Breadcrumb Navigation

Playing around on a larger project that focused on bringing the experience of the record player to the digital space I began exploring navigation. Think, breadcrumb navigation in a more minimal package.

Hover on the back button and the breadcrumb menu appears. You can easily see the path you took and jump back to any previous page from top to bottom, most recent to the last page you visited.

Weather App Concept

Weather apps have always interested me. They’re so simple and the information is almost identical between apps. I open my weather app multiple times a day, but I wanted to design a weather app that you never actually needed to open.

Sounds counterintuitive, but the idea was that everything you'd need to know could be learned just by looking at the app icon. The temperature would be shown through color, warmer color translates to warmer temperatures. Weather conditions would be illustrated through subtle animations like rain, snow, wind, and clouds (as shown here) would all animate on the app icon.

MLS Team Crests

I presented myself with the challenge to redesign all the current MLS team crests. First wanting to acknowledge their past designs and the historical significance of each team, and second, to create an identity for the league itself. I also kept myself on a tight timeline, I didn't want to spend too much time on this project. All together it took roughly a month or so.
